Join Us

There are many ways to get involved with us here at Tolethorpe. Every year we hold open auditions to join the Stamford Shakespeare Company, but there’s also plenty to do offstage. From backstage crew work, to lighting and sound, helping in the wardrobe department or around the grounds, there are always things to do.

Find out more about volunteering at Tolethorpe below.

Are you a fan of Shakespeare? Ever fancied treading the boards?

Then the Stamford Shakespeare Company wants to hear from you! Everyone is welcome, no matter what their previous experience. All that’s needed is passion and dedication.

Auditions take place each year in October. If you would like more information on auditions, please email our Administrator Pippa at admin@tolethorpe.co.uk

TYD

Tolethorpe Youth Drama is a magical, creative, and stimulating place, where students are trained in all aspects of acting and theatre-making.

As a centre of excellence, our classes and workshops are crafted by professionally trained, outstanding teachers and practitioners. Our young performers are challenged to think, question, and grow as creative, confident, and successful individuals and to take ownership of and pride in the exciting work they create together. Our weekly classes are complemented throughout the year with a host of opportunities for members to enhance their learning experience.

Tolethorpe is famous for the amazing costumes created by Wardrobe Mistress Miriam Spring Davies.

You may not know however, that Miriam is assisted by a team of volunteers who help bring her and the Directors’ visions to life. If you know your backstitch from your overlock, or are a dab hand with a buttonhole, join the wardrobe department and help create the next collection of great costumes.

To be a part of this incredible team, contact Miriam at: wardrobe@tolethorpe.co.uk

We always aim to make a visit to Tolethorpe special, and one of the key drivers behind making this happen is our team of Front of House volunteers.

They make sure guests have their tickets, know where their seats are, and help answer all the crucial questions, such as where to get interval drinks or what time the show will start.

It’s a great way to join the Tolethorpe community, and as a bonus, you get to see the productions.

Backstage work is the backbone of any good show.

From organising props and scenes, to helping with quick changes and stage calls, the backstage crew run the show from behind the scenes. We are very lucky to have a dedicated crew of volunteers, who are always welcoming to new recruits.

If you would like to join the team, please contact our Administrator Pippa at admin@tolethorpe.co.uk

The Rutland Open Air Theatre is a 600-seat venue with a fully professional sound and lighting rig.

If you have an interest in sound and lighting, there are few better places to learn. We have training days every year and are always looking for volunteers to help bring our shows to life on the stage.

If you are interested in finding our more, please contact our Theatre Manager David at Theatremanager@tolethorpe.co.uk

The grounds of Tolethorpe Hall are a wonderful setting for an evening at the theatre, and we rely on the kind help of green-fingered volunteers to make sure they are at their best every summer for the arrival of our guests.

Trimming, potting, planting, deadheading, watering, it’s all in a day’s work for the green team.

If you would like to get involved, and spend some time in the garden with us, please contact our Administrator Pippa at admin@tolethorpe.co.uk

Running a theatre is busy and varied work.

There are always things to be moved, old sets to be repurposed, new sets to be painted and a host of other small jobs. This can require a lot of manpower, and so every year we organise a few volunteer days, so people can come in and help get done all the little things that need doing before the season opens. It’s not always glamorous, but it is fun, important and greatly appreciated.

If you can lend a hand, please let our administrator Pippa know, and she’ll get in touch when we organise the next volunteer day. You can reach her at admin@tolethorpe.co.uk
