Join us to find out more about the history of Tolethorpe
Have you ever wondered how old our ancient hall really is, or how an amateur theatre company came to own such an incredible building. Perhaps you want to visit our vast store of fabulous costumes and see how they are all made or go behind the scenes to have a look backstage and see our amazing sets.
Tolethorpe Hall has a long, varied and eventful history, which we are keen to share with you. Mike Harrison, our resident expert on all things Tolethorpe, gives tours to groups of around 10 or more and is now taking bookings for 2023 and 2024. The tours season runs from September to April. The tour and talk combined lasts for around two hours. You’ll even learn how we discovered a medieval painted wall that had remained hidden for centuries.
Costs are £8 per person and include an illustrated talk, tea, coffee and biscuits, followed by a tour of the backstage area, including the costume department. Looking at the construction of our sets is also possible whenever it is safe to do so.
Mike is also prepared to travel to your own group at a cost of £80 plus travel expenses.
If you are interested, please contact Mike at talks@tolethorpe.co.uk
